It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Armand Maillet (Joe) our loving father and Grandpapa on May 17, 2022. He passed peacefully in the night at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.  He was in his 91st year. Born April 17th 1931 to Arthur Maillet and Josephine Goguen, he was the third of twelve children. He was raised in a home in which he learned the early lessons of patience, humour and kindness which he carried with him always. Joe joined the Canadian armed forces at 19 years of age. He served 25 years until his retirement as MCpl in 1975. He met his bride, Theresa Breau, through his military colleagues and future brother-in-law Harold Ross. Joe and Theresa were married August 15, 1959. They soon began their family: their daughter Diane (Dave) Mahoney and their son Michel Maillet. They raised their children primarily in Oromocto and Bathurst NB until their move to the Foyer Saint-Bernard in Neguac. They loved tending to the yard and their garden, both of which always looked amazing. They were blessed to spend more than half a century of summers by the sea at their chalet in Neguac. Joe took employment, post military retirement, at the mill in Bathurst until he retired fully. He spent years actively supporting his local legion branch. He was an avid dart league player, a former board member and (until he was no longer able) he was sure to be at the Remembrance Day parade every year. Grandpapa leaves a rich legacy in his grandchildren; Tricia-Leigh, Jonathan, Daniel, Rachel, Rebekah, and Michael and great grandchildren; Isabella, Hudson, Evita, Lucy, and Ivan. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Therese, his brothers Zoël, Edgar, Louis, Frank and Joseph as well as his sisters Rita, Maxine and Patricia. He leaves in mourning his children, grandchildren, sisters Helen, Marguerite and Florine, his brothers and sisters in law as well as several nieces and nephews. The service will be held at L’Église Saint–Bernard de Neguac on Monday, May 23 at 11 am.
