Joseph Edgar Doucet
Mr. Joseph Edgar “Ed” Doucet passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 89. He was the husband of the late Janet Doucet. He was born in Bathurst, on August 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph Benoit Doucet and the late Stella Rousselle. He grew up in depression-era Bathurst, Portage River and Neguac as the seventh oldest of 17 siblings.
He was the proud father of Dr Jay Doucet husband of Barbara Denny of San Diego, CA and of Teresita Doucet, wife of Jake Clarke of Dartmouth NS; two grandchildren: Victoria Reilly and Wesley Reilly; his brothers and sisters: Donald, Theresa,Yvette, Ida, Yvon, Bernadette and Jeannette, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers: Rita, Margaret, Raymond, Alphonsine, Catherine, Dorina, Laura, Leo and Benoit.
After graduating high school in Neguac, Edgar attended teacher’s college at the College of Bathurst and helped his father Ben as an electrician. Edgar’s sense of adventure, determination and love of hard work led him to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955 as an aircraft instrument/electrical technician. After a tour in Europe, Edgar was posted to RCAF Torbay, NF. There he met and married the love of his life, Janet Elizabeth Fagan to whom he was married 54 years until her death in 2013. Edgar served throughout Canada in the Canadian Forces for 36 years and retired at CFB Chatham as the Base Air Maintenance Support Officer at the rank of Captain. Ed was especially happy in the presence of grandchildren Victoria Reilly and Wesley Reilly. He was a loyal member and former secretary of Branch 61, Royal Canadian Legion, Neguac and a founding member and manager of the Tabusintac Golf Course.
A memorial service will be held at St Bernard’s Church, Neguac NB on Friday October 29 at 11am. A complete proof of vaccination and wearing a mask will be required to enter the funeral home, as well as in the church. We ask that all those who wish to attend the funeral arrive 30 minutes early at the church to show the necessary documents to the volunteers present. The funeral will be live on the Facebook page of Robichaud & Son funeral home. A reception will follow immediately at the Royal Canadian Legion, Neguac. À l’Hôpital régional de Miramichi, le mardi 19 octobre 2021, à l’âge de 89 ans, est décédé paisiblement après une courte lutte contre la maladie, M. Jospeh Edgar Doucet, époux de feu Janet Doucet. Né à Bathurst le 7 août 1932, il était fils de feu Joseph Benoit Doucet et de feu Stella Rousselle. Il était le 7e enfant d’une famille de 17. Il a grandi à Bathurst, Rivière-du-Portage et Neguac.
Il laisse dans le deuil deux enfants dont il était très fier : Dr Jay Doucet (Barbara Denny) de San Diego et Teresita Doucet (Jake Clarke) de Darmouth; deux petits-enfants : Victoria Reilly et Wesley Reilly; ses frères et sœurs : Donald, Theresa, Yvette, Ida, Yvon, Bernadette et Jeannette, ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-sœurs, neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines.
Ses frères et sœurs : Rita, Margaret, Raymond, Alphonsine, Catherine, Dorina, Laura, Leo et Benoit, l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
Après avoir terminé ses études secondaires à Neguac, Edgar à fréquenté le collège des enseignants du Collège de Bathurst et à aidé son père Ben en tant qu’électricien. Le sens de l’aventure, la détermination et l’amour du travail acharné d’Edgar l’ont mené à se joindre à l’Aviation royal du Canada en 1955 et tant que technicien en instrumentation/électricien d’aéronef. Après une tourné en Europe, Edgar à été envoyé à l’ARC Torbay, à Terre-Neuve. Là, il a rencontré et épousé l’amour de sa vie, Janet Elizabeth Fagan, avec qui il a été marié 54 ans, jusqu’à sa mort en 2013. Edgar a servi partout au Canada dans les Forces armées canadienne pendant 36 ans et a pris sa retraite à la BFC Chatham en tant qu’officier de soutien de la maintenance aérienne de la basse, au grade de Capitaine. Il était un membre et secrétaire loyal de la Légion Royale Canadienne de Neguac, filiale 61 et un membre fondateur du club de golf de Tabusintac.
Il n’y aura pas de visites au salon funéraire. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Bernard de Neguac, le vendredi 29 octobre, à 11h. Une preuve vaccinale complète et le port du masque seront obligatoires pour entrer dans l’église. Les funérailles sera diffusée en direct sur la page Facebook de la Maison funéraire Robichaud et fils. Nous demandons à tous ceux et celles qui désirent assister aux funérailles d’arriver 30 minutes à l’avance à l’église, afin de montrer les deux documents nécessaires aux bénévoles présents.
Une réception va suivre immédiatement après les funérailles à la légion de Neguac.
